Our Piggy Ladies, Gents and Bits

We are raising both registered, purebred Red Wattles, and Mangalitsa crosses.

While we are maintaining a few select curly Mangalitsa ladies and will have a limited number of crosses available each year, our program has transitioned to focus primarily on our preservation program of purebred, RWPP.Org registered Red Wattles .

All our pigs free-range on pasture running from two to up to thirty-five acres, depending on their age and status.  We have several 'large pens sometimes used for farrowing, as well as a "piglet tractor" used for weaning. Our feeder barrows run on the main pasture with our breeding stock, are fed once daily,  and we weigh and worm everyone monthly.  We medicate and treat injuries as needed.

With a dozen sows farrowing year 'round, we almost always have piglets and feeders available.  We are happy to talk pigs any time and visitors are welcome to come out and meet the herd.  If you are looking for a feeder, a breeder or a pet, we'll help you find the right one! We can also grow your pig out for you if you don't have your own space.

  • What do you get when you purchase a Cedar Break Piglet?
  • You get a piglet that is the produce of generations of selective breeding, bred not just for meat quality and size, but for temperament and handleability, which is important on a daily basis as you feed them out.  We also select for soundness, robust health and maternal ability, proven by pasture-farrowing and raising their piglets. Sire and dams are on site and welcome visitors.
  • We don't wean until 6-8 weeks, depending on the piglets and mom's body condition, then we hold them at least two weeks in our piglet weaning tractor where we have daily interaction with them. This gives you you get a big, healthy, well-adjusted piglet that is accustomed to seeing people around and has learned to come to the rattle of a bucket.  It also gives us a couple more weeks to better evaluate growth rates and the qualities of potential breeding stock.
  • Our purebreds are microchipped before they leave the nest so you can be confident of the breeding of your piglet, and have simple, lifelong identification.
  • These are ID chips only and do not have the ability to transmit any data. The reader has to be within inches of the chip to bounce a signal off to read it.  This type of chip is about the size of a grain of rice and provides irrefutable id through-out their life, including if the pig is stolen or goes 'walk about'.
  • Registered piglets come with DNA Parentage verification.
  • We strive to build a relationship with our piglet owners. We offer as much support as we can and are happy to answer any question for those who are new to pigs.
  • NEWS!  We are in the process of genetic testing of our breeding stock for herd health, meat quality, growth rate and sow productivity.  We're very happy with what we've learned about our herd sire, Epic Maedhros, and are still waiting for results on the ladies. Once we have the more complete picture on the entire herd, we'll use the new information we have on genotype in conjunction with phenotype and detailed records on growth rate and meat quality to be able to provide only the highest quality of piglet and pork.

Purebred and Registered Red Wattle Hogs

We maintain a herd of purebred Red Wattle breeding stock that are microchipped, DNA verified, and registered. Our foundation stock is registered with the Red Wattle Hog Association, and all our current and future stock is registered with Red Wattle Pigs Plus.Org

Many people don't realize the high standards demanded for registration with Red Wattle Pigs Plus.  Just because a piglet is from registered parents doesn't mean it can be registered.  We occasionally have purebred piglets available that don't meet the high standards for registration.  If you are looking for a feeder pig, this may be the best option for you.

Red Wattles are a large hog with a mild temperment that produce a rich red, marbled pork steak.  They are a native Texas breed and listed as a rare breed with Livestock Conservatory.  Our breeding program is designed not only to provide healthy, delicious pork to our local markets but to support breeders on a national level to grow and promote this remarkable breed.

All our purebred stock will be microchiped, with DNA parentage verification available on any piglet   upon request. Our breeding quality piglets come with registration, including DNA parentage verification.

High Percent Red Wattle Crosses

We have a few select sows who have proven to be superior producers that we put with our purebred Red Wattle boar, Epic Maedhros.

These ladies are out of red wattle cross sows by our favorite Mangalitsa, J Tiberius.

If you use lard for cooking, skin care or soap making, this is definitely the pig for you.

This offers our customers a superior Red Wattle meat and genetics while the Mangalitsa percent adds fat and marbling.
